College Park, Md. Councilman to Study Official English

July 29, 2008

According to today's Washington Examiner, College Park, Md. Councilman Jack Perry is considering introducing a measure to make English the official language of the city, and eliminate many written translations. College Park, which translates the information on its website into Spanish, French, Italian and German, would be the third Maryland town in recent years to consider official English legislation, following Taneytown and Walkersville.

This past spring, the Maryland House of Delegates voted against an amendment to make English the official language of the state, despite the fact that polls show more than three-in-four Marylanders in favor of the bill.
