Another Town Seeks to Make English Official

Thurmont, Md. latest to promote one official language in government

July 1, 2008

Thurmont, Md. Mayor Marty Burns has proposed a resolution to make English the official language of the town, joining a growing number of towns, counties and states to focus on the common language of all Americans. Burns’s proposal, which was introduced at a June 16 board meeting, follows successful efforts in the nearby town of Walkersville, Md., as well as Frederick County, where Thurmont is located.
